A man has been charged over a hit-run incident that left a scooter rider with critical injuries in Melbourne's north.

The scooter rider, a 46-year-old man, was hit by a vehicle in Campbellfield at 1pm on Sunday and taken to hospital where he is still fighting for life.
Police were alerted to a man loitering near a vehicle in the adjacent suburb of Coolaroo at about 4.20pm, with officers then trying to intercept the man in Fawkner.
The police airwing and critical incident response team members tracked the man to a car park in Brunswick, where he was arrested.
The 45-year-old Dallas man was later charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, intentionally causing serious injury, fail to stop and render assistance, and possessing cannabis and bail offences.
