Mooroopna pulled off one of the greatest upsets of the Goulburn Valley League season at the weekend.
Thanks to GVL Data we can get a glimpse of the numbers behind the Cats’ stunning triumph over ladder leader Echuca at the weekend.
No surprise to see Echuca dominate the opening term, with the Murray Bombers booting five goals to two in the first quarter.
Echuca was well and truly on top with 40 contested possessions to 23, along with its 16 inside 50 entries.
Mooroopna could only manage four clearances and four hit-outs in the first term, while Echuca was able to post 11 and 12 respectively.
The Cats managed to wrestle momentum back following that slow start and midfielder Ethan Hunt was one of the key components of their charge.
In the third term, Hunt collected 10 disposals to go along with his three clearances and two inside 50s.
Hunt went on to finish with 28 touches for the match, a whopping 12 tackles and 10 clearances and throw in seven inside 50s too.
In the final quarter, Mooroopna continued its relentless pressure on the Murray Bombers to post an 18 to nine tackling count.
Echuca, which enjoys a 65 per cent kicking efficiency, went at under 50 per cent by foot in the last quarter as the Cats cut off their access through the corridor of the ground.
