The Victorian Government has provided $225,625 from the 2020-21 Minor Work Capital Fund to replace the fencing around the school’s perimeter.
Benalla-based Timberline Constructions (Vic) Pty Ltd has been appointed.
The project has been sub-contracted to Numurkah company Webb’s Fencing.
Numurkah Primary School principal Debbie Oliver said works started during the school holidays.
“The grant was awarded at the end of last year, so it’s really good it’s going ahead, we were in dire need of a new fence and it will make our school safer,” she said.
“I was hoping when we put in for the grant that people in a local business would be selected, so we’re very happy.”
A new fence is also being placed around the school’s tennis and netball courts.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the minor capital works fund delivered smaller projects that make a big difference, while supporting local jobs.
“We’re making sure our schools have the best facilities, our classrooms have the best teachers and that every child is given every chance to succeed.”
The Victorian Budget 2021-22 invests $20 million in the fund to improve learning spaces as well as the condition and character of schools.
More than 300 Victorian government schools have been allocated funding to fast-track priority projects under the fund.
