It can be challenge for people to return to their lives after cancer treatment ends.
In a quest to help survivors strike a balance in their ‘new normal’, Cancer Council Victoria is running a wellness and exercise program in Seymour.
The eight-week course is composed of one-hour group fitness sessions led by a specialist, followed by a short education session. It is designed for people who have completed their cancer treatment.
It will help participants increase their strength and fitness, improve their ability to preform daily tasks, learn strategies to manage fatigue and provides a chance to connect with other survivors.
According to Cancer Council Victoria’s head of cancer information and support services Katherine Lane, research has shown that exercise rehabilitation programs help in the management of pain and fatigue and help to improve a person’s quality of life.
“This program provides people affected by cancer with the tools to deal with the changes in their lives at home and at work, as well as the confidence to exercise and increase their strength and fitness,” Ms Lane said.
The course is free to attend.
